Finnish Innovation Revolutionizes the Food Industry – SuperGround’s Patented Technology Enables Full Utilization of Fish and Attracts €2.5 Million in International Funding

Finnish food technology company SuperGround has secured €2.5 million in funding to accelerate its international growth. The funding round was led by a prominent Irish investor Hatch Blue Revolution Fund, who specialize in sustainable aquaculture and is known for supporting sustainable and innovative projects.

Founded in 2021, SuperGround has developed a unique patented technology that enables the full utilization of fish in the food industry. Currently, up to 70% of caught or farmed fish is not used for human consumption but rather ends up as feed or fertilizer. SuperGround’s innovation offers a solution to this waste and promotes a sustainable food system.

Additionally, SuperGround’s technology is also suitable for utilizing side streams from the poultry industry, enhancing the solution’s versatility and scalability across various food industry sectors.

“We are proud of our Finnish innovation that has generated international interest,” says SuperGround CEO Jaakko Kaminen. Hatch Blue Revolution Fund’s investment highlights the significance of Finnish foodtech expertise on a global scale.

Hatch Blue sees SuperGround’s technology as having the potential to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the global food production. “If the world will in fact run into a shortage of low-cost fish and poultry-based protein, which will depend heavily on how governments are going to subsidise mass animal production in the future and how vegetarian, vegan and cell-based alternatives will catch up, then SuperGround’s technology is perfectly placed to become a global standard in fish and poultry downstream processing,” says Carsten Krome, managing partner at Hatch Blue.

SuperGround plans to usethe funding to expand production capacity and forge new partnerships, particularly in the European market. The company aims to reduce food industry waste and promote the use of sustainably produced fish on a global scale.
